Man Stabs Woman Jogging In NW Suburban Forest Preserve

(CBS) -- Investigators are trying to chase down a man who stabbed a woman jogging in a forest preserve in the northwest suburbs.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports the jogger managed to get away, avoiding fatal injury and at the same time provide police a description that could go a long way in capturing the man responsible.

The crime happened around 4:30 p.m., just after sunset, in the Deer Grove Forest Preserve.

The Cook County Sheriff's Department says a man stabbed a woman who was jogging in the Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, just after sunset.

Law enforcement received a call from a nearby home alerting them to the attack. They say the runner was cut in the stomach and managed to drive herself to a house where the call for help was made. She is now hospitalized in stable condition.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male around 5 foot 7 with a medium build, bald head, black shirt and two earrings in his right ear.

In neighboring Arlington Heights, police were looking for a man who attacked a female jogger earlier this month. That was the third time a jogger has been attacked in that suburb in the last 14 months.

No word from police if those cases are connected to this latest one.
