Cafeteria Manager Charged With Stealing $50K From Aurora School
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The cafeteria manager at a west suburban high school skimmed more than $50,000 from daily lunch sales at the school over a seven-month period, prosecutors allege.
A judge set bond at $30,000 for Kristy Davis, 48, who was employed by the food service company Aramark and managed the cafeteria at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, according to a statement from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Between Oct. 3, 2013 and May 23 this year, Davis allegedly stole cash before making daily deposits from lunch sales to the school district's bank account. Sometimes she would use checks stolen from the district to make up for missing cash to make the deposits look accurate, prosecutors claim.
Davis was arrested by Aurora police on Friday and charged with one felony count of theft over $10,000, authorities said.
"The very idea that someone would steal money from a school, particularly when schools across the state are facing serious funding challenges, is outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement.
Davis, of the 3800 block of Junebreeze Lane in Naperville, is next scheduled to appear in court Dec. 28 for arraignment.
