Aunt Charged With Supplying Guns Used To Shoot Deputies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman from Elk Grove Village has been charged with illegally providing guns to her nephew, who has been accused of shooting two McHenry County Sheriff's deputies in October.

Kathryn Kriepki, 67, was ordered held on $100,000 bail Wednesday, on a charge of delivering firearms to someone who does not possess a Firearm Owner's Identification card.

Prosecutors said she gave three weapons to her 52-year-old nephew, Scott Peters on Aug. 1: an AR-15 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a .38-caliber handgun.

Peters, of Holiday Hills, has been charged with two counts each of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and discharge of a firearm at a police officer; for allegedly shooting McHenry County Sheriff's deputies Khalia Satkiewicz and Dwight Maness on Oct. 16.

Peters allegedly fired shots through his home's front door when the officers arrived in response to a call about a domestic disturbance. He then allegedly went outside, and fired more shots at police.

A third deputy fired at Peters, who fled the scene. Peters was arrested later that day. He was being held on $1 million bail, pending trial.

Prosecutors said the rifle used to shoot the deputies has been linked to a 1995 crime in Wilmette. It was returned to Kriepke, who is the legal owner, in 1997.

Kriepke was due back in court on Dec. 23.
