High School Student Uses Stun Gun On Four Teens In 'Horseplay' Incident

(CBS) – A 17-year-old male student brought a stun gun Friday to south suburban Shepard High School and used it to shock four of his peers, authorities say. No one was believed to be seriously injured.

The student used the stun gun on four boys ranging in age from 14 to 17, the Cook County Sheriff's Department tells CBS 2. One student went to the hospital to get checked out at the request of a parent.

The unnamed offender is from Alsip. He was taken into custody and is being charged as a juvenile with counts of aggravated battery and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, the sheriff's department said.

An official at the Palos Heights high school characterized the incident as "horseplay."

"A student brought a taser like device to school today and used this devise on a small number of students in a 'horseplay' fashion. As a precautionary measure, the administration notified local law enforcement and had the students receive medical attention. We also notified parents and followed our established safety protocols," Principal Josh Barron said in an emailed statement.
