Emanuel Blasts Quinn After Former Campaign Aide Picked To Run Illinois Sports Facilities Board

(CBS) -- Mayor Emanuel is critical of Governor Quinn for engineering the appointment a campaign aide to run the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

On Monday, Governor Quinn's supporters installed former Quinn campaign manager Lou Bertuca as executive director for the board that built U.S. Cellular Field and rebuilt Soldier Field. Bertuca replaces Kelly Kraft, a former Quinn spokeswoman.

Emanuel didn't like that last appointment and he blasts this one saying the job shouldn't be about politics and Governor-Elect Bruce Rauner should get to choose the director.

"God forbid something happen financially or in the fiscal management and stewardship, Chicago taxpayers are on the hook," Emanuel said. "This should not be just for anybody, it should be for people I think that in my view take the responsibilities seriously and have a good background and knowledge as it relates to this authority."

A spokesman for Governor Quinn says the ISFA board chose Bertuca and the governor thinks it is a good decision. He calls him a strong leader with good experience in management and government.
