White Sox Acquire Reliever Dan Jennings From Marlins

(CBS) Focusing yet again on their most glaring need, the White Sox have acquired left-handed reliever Dan Jennings from the Marlins in exchange for right-hander Andre Rienzo, they announced late Thursday morning.

The 27-year-old Jennings was 0-2 with a 1.34 ERA in 47 appearances for Miami in 2014.

"We are pleased to add a pitcher like Dan to our restructured bullpen," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "He provides our bullpen with more depth and gives Robin (Ventura) another viable left-handed option."

Jennings missed nearly a month last season after being hit in the head by a line drive in early August.

Jennings is the third recent addition to the White Sox bullpen, which was 28th in the majors last season with a 4.38 ERA. Chicago has already signed closer David Robertson to a four-year deal and lefty reliever Zach Duke to a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old Rienzo was 4-5 with a 6.82 ERA in 18 appearances, including 11 starts, last season in Chicago.
