It's Official: Melky Cabrera's A Member Of White Sox

(CBS) The White Sox have officially announced the signing of outfielder Melky Cabrera to a three-year, $42-million contract, a deal that was first reported by 670 The Score's Bruce Levine early Sunday morning.

The 30-year-old Cabrera will make $13 million in 2015, $14 million in 2016 and $15 million in 2017.

"Melky provides us with a professional hitter who reaches base on a consistent basis," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "We think he slides into Robin's batting order perfectly and adds depth to a very versatile lineup.  We are very excited about his addition to our roster."

Cabrera hit .301 with 35 doubles, 16 homers, 73 RBIs and 81 runs last season for Toronto. He also had a .351 on-base percentage, which appeals to the White Sox, who will likely use him in the No. 2 hole so he can get on base ahead of Jose Abreu.

Cabrera is a career .286 hitter.

The White Sox's 40-man roster is now full at 40.

The White Sox have a press conference scheduled for later Tuesday afternoon to formally announce the acquisitions of right-hander Jeff Samardzija and closer David Robertson.
