Marc Trestman 'Aware' Of Outside Noise On Job Status

(CBS) Asked about his increasingly shaky job status in a 5-9 season, Bears coach Marc Trestman said Wednesday that he's "aware" of the noise but can't devote any attention to speculation swirling outside Halas Hall.

"Really for me to look at anything that's going on outside the building wouldn't be fair to this organization and the way I've been treated here by management and the people here," Trestman said. "My focus … is completely inclusive on preparing this team the best I can each and every week. And certainly I understand I've only prepared them to be 5-9, and I'm not happy that. We're not happy about that, and our fans are not happy about that. I go back in to work and stay as present as I can and work on the things that I need to work on.

"I understand when you're 5-9, those things are going to go on outside this building. You understand that I didn't sign up to be 5-9. We didn't decide to come to work each day and work all year to be 5-9, but that's the present state of affairs. And the only way to approach that is by doing what's most important, and that's trying to help your coaches and players get ready."

On Monday before Chicago's 31-15 loss to New Orleans at Soldier Field, members of the Bears ownership group met to discuss the future of Trestman and general manager Phil Emery, 670 The Score's Dan Bernstein reported.

Trestman's outlook is bleak, while the future of Emery is unclear and "under discussion."

"We're aware that there's noise out there," Trestman said.

"I've been around the NFL long enough to know when you're 5-9, there's going to a lot going on outside the building."

Trestman acknowledged he's spoken with Bears chairman George McCaskey but wouldn't go into many details. He didn't give a timeframe for when he last talked or how often they do.

"I'd rather leave all of that as something we talk about in the building," Trestman said.

"We see each other. We converse with each other. We have cordial conversations with each other. We have business conversations as well. That's the extent of it at this point."

Chicago hosts Detroit on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.
