Two Dead, Another Hurt In South Loop Crash

(STMW) -- Two people were killed and another was critically hurt in a fiery single-vehicle crash early Sunday in the South Loop.

An SUV struck a light pole in the 1200 block of South Clinton at 2:45 a.m., police said. The SUV burst into flames after crashing.

A 42-year-old man and 25-year-old man were dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Their names were not released Sunday evening pending notification of their families.

The 25-year-old died of multiple blunt force and thermal injuries he suffered in the crash and inhalation of products of combustion was listed as a secondary cause, an autopsy Sunday found. His death was ruled an accident.

A 26-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.
