Eight Shot Across Chicago On Christmas Eve

(STMW) -- At least eight people were shot across Chicago since Christmas Eve.

The most recent shooting happened Thursday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

A 29-year-old man was shot in the back about 11:20 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Shields, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Earlier, at 2 a.m., a man was robbed and shot in Englewood.

The 25-year-old was shot in the leg in the 6000 block of South Carpenter after he was approached by two people who announced a robbery, police said. The robbers fled with his jacket and cell phone, police said.

He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

On Wednesday, at about 11 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The man was shot in the head in the 2100 block of South Ashland, police said. He walked into Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Officers responding to the hospital were unable to interview him because of the nature of his injuries, police said.

About 15 minutes earlier, a man and a woman were both shot and critically injured at the 95th Street Red Line station on the South Side.

During an argument with a woman, a male pulled out a gun and fired shots about 10:45 p.m. on the mezzanine level of the station at 14 W. 95th St., police said

The woman, 41, was shot in the knee and abdomen and a 25-year-old man was shot in the chest, police said. They were both taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A second man, 24, suffered an injury to the face when he was hit by shattered glass, police said. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park, where his condition had stabilized.

It was not known whether the two men knew the shooter, police said.

The shooting did not affect train service, said CTA spokeswoman Ibis Antongiorgi.

About 2 p.m., a man was seriously wounded in a Beverly neighborhood shooting on the South Side.

The shooting happened in the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway, police said.

The 22-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center. A police source said the victim is a documented gang member and a convicted felon, and the shooting may have happened during a robbery.

Earlier in the morning, a man was shot in West Englewood on the South Side.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the right hand about 11:35 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Paulina, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Wednesday's first shooting happened at 11 a.m., when a man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 25-year-old man was walking down the street in the 4100 block of West Wilcox when he "heard shots and felt pain," police said. He was dropped off at Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to his head and left knee, police said. He was in guarded condition Wednesday afternoon.
