NIU Defeats Hampton 83-51 To Stay Perfect At Home
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Darrell Bowie scored 22 points -- one shy of his career best -- and Aaron Armstead added 12 points with a career-high eight steals as Northern Illinois defeated Hampton 83-51 on Monday night.
Bowie hit 6 of 12 from the floor along with 9 of 11 at the foul line as the Huskies (5-5) remained unbeaten in five games at home.
Dwight Meikle led the Pirates (6-7) with 18 points and 15 rebounds, Reginald Johnson adding 10 points. Meikle scored 10 points early as Hampton rallied into a 21-21 tie midway through the opening half. But the Huskies pulled away to halftime on a 25-14 clip, Bowie adding 12 points in the run, and were not threatened again.
Quinton Chievous, a leading scorer for Hampton, was held to five points, all at the foul line, and was forced into six turnovers.
Northern Illinois forced Hampton 25 turnovers, with 16 steals.
