Blackhawks' Versteeg Undergoes Procedure On Fractured Left Hand

By Chris Emma-

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Blackhawks winger Kris Versteeg underwent a successful procedure Tuesday to further stabilize a metacarpal fracture in his left hand, the team announced during Chicago's game with Colorado.

Versteeg was injured during the Blackhawks' Winter Classic loss to Washington on Jan. 1 as he took a puck from the Capitals' Eric Fehr to the left hand. Coach Joel Quenneville said on Saturday that Versteeg will miss a month of action.

"We do not anticipate any significant changes in his return to play timetable and we continue to anticipate a full recovery," Blackhawks doctor Michael Terry said in a statement.

Chicago called upon its top prospect, Teuvo Teravainen, to replace Versteeg. On the season, Versteeg has nine goals and 18 assists, tied for third with Marian Hossa and only trailing Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.
