1 Dead, 4 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) --A man was killed and at least four other people have been wounded in separate shootings on the South and West sides since Friday night.

The fatal shooting happened about 10:40 p.m. Friday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Two men, ages 31 and 35, were standing on a sidewalk about in the 0-100 block of South Kostner when they heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

The older man, later identified as Michael Harrison, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Harrison lived in the 2700 block of West Jackson, authorities said.

The other man, 31, took himself to Rush University Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the left calf and right ankle. His condition stabilized, police said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 10:25 p.m. Saturday at a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood convenience store.

A 15-year-old boy and several other people were standing in the store in the 600 block of East 75th Street when a gunman walked into the store and fired shots, police said.

The boy suffered gunshot wounds to the left side of his neck and his right knee and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Late Friday, a separate West Garfield Park neighborhood shooting left a man wounded.

The 21-year-old was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked white sedan about 10:15 p.m. in the 4000 block of West West End when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg. His condition stabilized.

The weekend's first shooting happened about 7 p.m. Friday in the McKinley Park neighborhood.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the upper body and leg in the 2100 block of West 35th Street, police said. His condition had stabilized, but it was not known which hospital he was taken to, police said.
