Nine People Displaced After Fire At Chatham Apartment Building

The 2-11 alarm fire started just after 2:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Cottage Grove. Firefighters had to rescue people from the third floor.

The cause of the fire, which was thought to have started in the back stairwell, was initially deemed "suspicious" because of the way it had spread, officials said.

But the police Bomb and Arson Unit found no evidence of accelarants used to start the fire, police said Sunday afternoon.

Hernandez said a cause had not been determined Sunday afternoon.
