One Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On Eisenhower

(CBS) -- A wrong-way crash on the Eisenhower Expressway has left at one person dead and five others injured.

The collision occurred at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Police believe a driver was traveling the wrong way on the inbound Eisenhower going west in an eastbound lane of I-290 at the Des Plaines exit in west suburban Forest Park.

The man who was killed in the crash has been identified as Juan Carlos Salazar, 29, of Chicago. Illinois State Police say he was a front seat passenger. The five others injured in the accident suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

As crews looked into how it happened and after the injured were rushed away for medical care, gridlock followed. Parts of the expressway were shut down, but around 10 a.m. all lanes were opened up to traffic.
