Despite Speech Cancellation, Family Friend Says Daley Hasn't Suffered Health Setback

(CBS) -- We are learning a little more about former Mayor Richard Daley and his cancellation of a speech at a Grand Rapids, Michigan, college.

A family friend tells WBBM that the speech at Calvin College was scheduled months ago and that former Mayor Daley "continues to recover from a health scare early last year."

Meaning: his recovery is not complete from suffering what is presumed to be a stroke.

WBBM is told Daley is not in the hospital and did not go back in the hospital and that he has been spending time with his grandchildren.

Daley was scheduled to speak at Calvin College in Grand Rapids this week.

The family friend tells WBBM that Daley has not suffered a setback, but is still not 100 percent.

Daley was at the ribbon-cutting for Maggie Daley Park last month, but he did not speak.
