(STMW) -- One man was killed and another was seriously wounded in a shooting in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side Tuesday evening.

Rene Arredondo, 31, was shot in the head about 5 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Rockewell, officials said. Arredondo, of the 4500 block of South Rockwell, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

The other man, 18, was shot in the arm and back and was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is listed in serious condition, police said.

The shooting occurred on the same block as Shield Elementary School, maps show. When reached by the Sun-Times Tuesday evening, the receptionist at the school said no one there had heard anything.
