Man Charged With DUI For Fatal Wrong-Way Crash On Eisenhower

(STMW) -- A wrong-way driver who caused a crash early Sunday on the Eisenhower Expressway that left one man dead and four other people injured is facing multiple DUI charges.

Matthew M. Bougher, 21, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death and three counts of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, according to Illinois State Police.

Bougher was driving the wrong way in the inbound lanes of I-290 at the Des Plaines exit about 4:40 a.m. Sunday when his car crashed into two other vehicles, including a van, police said.

A passenger in the van, 29-year-old Juan Carlos-Salazar, died in the crash, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Carlos-Salazar, of the 6300 block of South Archer, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:25 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.

Five others, including Bougher, were were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Bougher remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon with head trauma, a broken leg and a dislocated hip, according to police. Court information was not immediately available.

Inbound lanes near the site of the crash were closed for more than five hours Sunday morning, police said.
