Normal Temps, Dry Conditions To Stick Around For A While

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a frigid and snowy start to the year, Chicago could flirt with the 40s this weekend, as temperatures rise above normal January levels, and people should be able to keep their shovels in the garage for a while.

While frigid conditions last week prompted many schools to close for one or two days, as temperatures hovered around zero, this week's temperatures largely have stayed in the teens, and over the next several days, should be more like a typical January, with highs in the low 30s.

This weekend, though, temperatures should rise to a high of about 39 on Saturday, and 35 on Sunday, both above the normal high temperature of about 31 for this time of year.

The Chicago area also is getting an extended break from the snow, with dry conditions expected to continue through the foreseeable future, with no better than a 10 percent chance of precipitation for brief periods through Tuesday.
