Bears Hire Three Coaches, Part Ways With Mel Tucker

(CBS) The Chicago Bears announced three new additions to the coaching staff on Tuesday evening.

The Bears hired Sam Garnes to be the new assistant defensive backs coach, Dave Magazu as the new offensive line coach and Derius Swinton II as assistant special teams coach. All three previously worked with Bears coach John Fox in Denver.

Garnes has worked with Fox since 2010 in Carolina, where he served as the Panthers' special teams and strength and conditioning assistant coach. He spent the last four seasons with Fox in Denver as the assistant secondary/safeties coach.

Magazu has spent the last 12 seasons as part of Fox's coaching staffs. He got his start as the Panthers' tight ends coach in 2003 before becoming their offensive line coach in 2007, the same role he held with the Broncos for the past four seasons.

Swinton II has coached special teams in the NFL for six seasons, the past two as assistant special teams coach for the Broncos.

The Bears also announced they informed the following coaches they won't return to the team in 2015 -- defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis, tight end coach Andy Bischoff, linebackers coach Reggie Herring and assistant special teams coach Dwayne Stukes.
