Vic Fangio Is 4-0 Against Aaron Rodgers' Packers, With Just Enough Defensive Success

(CBS) In his four-year tenure as the 49ers defensive coordinator, new Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio went 4-0 against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

In those games, it would be fair to characterize Fangio's defenses as having had enough success to allow the San Francisco offense to lead the team to victories. Here's a look at those games and Rodgers' stats.

2012 regular season: 49ers 30, Packers 22

The skinny: The 49ers allowed just two touchdowns to the Green Bay offense, as the other score was a long punt return, and San Francisco controlled the game throughout, with the help of three sacks from the defense.
Rodgers' stats: 30-of-44 for 303 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a QB rating of 93.3
Packers' total yards: 324 (279 passing/45 rushing)
Packers' yards per play: 5.3

2012 divisional round: 49ers 45, Packers 31

The skinny: This one wasn't about the San Francisco defense. The storyline was 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick running for 181 yards and his team taking control with the ground game in the second half. It's worth noting that one of Green Bay's touchdowns came on an interception return.
Rodgers' stats: 26-of-39 for 257 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a QB rating of 91.5
Packers' total yards: 352 (248 passing/102 rushing)
Packers' yards per play: 6.3

2013 regular season: 49ers 34, Packers 28

The skinny: The 49ers rallied for a victory with 10 points in the final six minutes, after their defense allowed one Packers touchdown in each quarter.
Rodgers' stats: 21-of-37 for 333 yards, three touchdowns and one interception for a QB rating of 102.6
Packers' total yards: 385 (322 passing/63 rushing)
Packers' yards per play: 6.6

2013 wild-card round: 49ers 23, Packers 20

The skinny: In a wind chill of -10, this was the best performance a Fangio defense has had against Rodgers and the Packers. Phil Dawson kicked a field goal at the buzzer to win it after San Francisco sacked Rodgers four times and never let him find sustained success through the air.
Rodgers' stats: 17-of-26 for 177 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions for a QB rating of 97.8
Packers' total yards: 281 (157 passing/124 rushing)
Packers' yards per play: 4.6
