Police Investigating Death Of Chicago Woman Found Near New Buffalo, Mich.

(CBS) -- Chicago Police detective have joined the investigation into the death of a Chicago woman found dead Sunday near New Buffalo, Mich.

Detectives from the Michigan State Police Niles post and Chicago Police met Tuesday with the family of the 42-year-old victim, Elizabeth Brooks. Even though Michigan and Chicago Police investigators are working together, Chicago Police have no comment on the case.

Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Doug Kill said Brooks was identified through fingerprints on her Chicago arrest record.

Kill said the body was found on a private drive just off exit 4 on I-94, near New Buffalo, and bore no obvious signs of trauma. Although the body was found just north of the Amtrak right-of-way, police do not believe she was struck by the train. Instead, police believe Brooks died elsewhere and that the body was dumped on the drive.

The Berrien County coroner is not releasing a cause of death pending the results of drug and alcohol tests.
