Joliet Police Still Hunting For Second Suspect In Deadly Robbery

CHICAGO (CBS) -- As Joliet police continued their search for the second robber in a holdup that left a convenience store clerk and a robber dead last week, investigators were hoping someone would come forward with information to help them crack the case.

Two robbers entered the Gardner Food Mart on Jan. 19, and when one of them showed a gun, 24-year-old store clerk Mohammed Eid drew a weapon from behind the counter.

Eid and 24-year-old robber Troy Norris exchanged gunfire, and both were wounded and later died.

Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said the second robber ran out of the store before the shootout ended, so he wasn't with Norris when Norris fled the scene, and friends later brought Norris to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where Norris later died.

"He took off when the shooting started, so we really do not know where he went," Roechner said. "He was involved in the robbery itself."

As for whether the second robber also fired shots before fleeing, Roechner said, "until we get ballistics back, we won't know for sure on that, because he is out of some of the video."

Roechner said he hopes someone in the community will come forward, and give up the name of the second robber.

"A lot of times, someone will come forward, or someone will get in trouble themselves and then decide to tell us what happened," he said. "Hopefully we don't have to wait for that to happen. Hopefully, someone will just do the right thing."

Based on his experience in past cases, Roechner said it's likely the suspect has confided in someone by now.
