The #UglySelfie Challenge: Do It And Feel Good About Yourself

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- I work in a business in which I am surrounded by beautiful people.

I envy their poise, their dashing style and dazzling smiles.

I envy their selfies.

All of these TV personalities in perfect repose with a camera inches from their faces.

Perhaps that is why I like this guy named Jerome Jarre, the man behind the "ugly selfie" campaign.

Jerome is a mega-star on social media, specifically on Vine. He also impressively turned down $1 million from an ad agency because "it didn't feel right."

To better understand Mr. Jarre, a globetrotting Frenchman all of 24 years of age, read this piece by Nick Bilton of the New York Times.

Jarre is huge among the younger crowd for his quixotic and idealistic world view.

So, he came up with the idea of the ugly selfie, after considering how people fret so much about taking that perfect snap.

Like many of Jarre's idea, this one has turned tinder into a wildfire, lighting up Twitter with delightful and amusing personal images.

It takes more self-confidence to bare yourself and take an ugly photo, than a pretty one.

Go ahead, try it.
