Man Stabbed To Death At Super Bowl Party On Near South Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was stabbed to death Sunday night when he attempted to intervene in a couple's argument during a Super Bowl party on the Near South Side.

Antonio Gamboa, 23, was at a party in the 2300 block of South Michigan about 8 p.m. when he saw the couple arguing, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

When he tried to stop the argument, the boyfriend stabbed him in the abdomen, police said.

Gamboa, of the 1600 block of North Kimball, was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The boyfriend, 28, also suffered stab wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. The girlfriend was not injured.

A police source said the party was a Super Bowl celebration.

Charges were pending against the boyfriend as he remained hospitalized Monday morning, police said.
