Carpentersville Man Gets 31 Years For Sexually Assaulting Child
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man was sentenced to 31 years in prison Wednesday for sexually assaulting a young child over a three-year period.
Sergio Tinajero, 54, was convicted Dec. 3, 2014, of four counts of predatory sexual assault of a child and aggravated sexual abuse, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office. He was sentenced Wednesday to 31 years in prison by Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles.
Tinajero, 54, knew the victim, who was under 13 at the time, when he sexually assaulted the child multiple times between September 2009 and September 2012 at his home in the 0-99 block of Robin Road in Carpentersville, according to a statement from prosecutors.
Police started investigating after a school counselor overheard the victim telling a friend about the assaults, and reported it to the Department of Children and Family Services, the state's attorney's office said.
Tinajero must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and will receive credit for at least 63 days served in the Kane County Jail. In addition, he must register as a sex offender for life.
"Mr. Tinajero was given what he deserves. I hope his sentence is seen by all victims of child sexual assault as vindication for being courageous enough to come forward and seek justice," State's Attorney Joe McMahon said in the statement.
"Thanks to all mandated reporters who promptly report such crimes to DCFS as required by law," McMahon said.
