In Obituary, Family Blames Seahawks' 'Lousy Play Call' For Fan's Death
(CBS Seattle) A Washington family poked fun at the Seattle Seahawks for a fan's death, writing in his obituary that the game-ending interception in last Sunday's Super Bowl led to his fatal heart attack.
The family of Michael Sven Vedvik, 53, put in his obituary in The Spokesman-Review that, "We blame the Seahawks' lousy play call for Mike's untimely death."
Trailing 28-24 against the Patriots in the final minute with the ball at the 1-year line, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw a game-ending interception as coach Pete Carroll elected to pass it instead of handing the ball off to powerful running back Marshawn Lynch.
"My husband would have thought it was hysterical," wife Stephanie Vedvik told The Review. "If I had read this obituary to my husband about somebody else, he would have had a laugh."
Michael Vedvik didn't actually watch the game because he wasn't feeling well. He ended up recording the game to watch it later.
"He hadn't been feeling well on and off, but he wouldn't go to the doctor," Stephanie told The Review. "He thought it was indigestion or stress."
She found her husband dead Monday morning.
Michael Vedvik's sister wrote his obituary, and his brother-in-law added the Seahawks line with Stephanie's approval.
