Woman Files Lawsuit Claiming She Was Raped By Security Guard At Skokie Hotel

(CBS) -- A 49-year-old woman from Dallas says she was raped by a security guard at the Skokie Holiday Inn - and now she is suing the hotel and the guard.

It was in October of 2013 when Karla Gress says she was raped. She says she was traveling on business and ate at the restaurant in the Holiday Inn North Shore in Skokie.

Gress says she didn't see it - but she believes a security guard slipped something in one of the two drinks she ordered and drugged her. Then, she says, he sexually assaulted her in her room.

"I awoke in a panic. Like when you wake up from a nightmare and you gasp for air. My underwear had been removed. I was confused and scared. I felt like I'd been in a car wreck. My body was sore and my brain was in a fog."

Now Gress and her husband are accusing Skokie Police of dragging out the investigation.

Skokie Police said in a statement that the man accused by Gress was arrested last month and released without charges. The statement said police are "committed to the through and timely investigation of all crimes."

A spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney says that office is looking into Gress's allegations against the security guard. "It's an open investigation," says State's Attorney's Spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Gress is suing the hotel and the security guard.

WBBM has asked the Holiday Inn in Skokie for comment.
