Sheriff: Cook County Jail Officer Had Sexual Relationship With Inmate

(STMW) -- A former Cook County Jail officer is facing a criminal charge after it was discovered that she had a sexual relationship with an inmate, authorities claim.

Lotisha Myers, 47, faces one felony count of custodial sexual misconduct, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff's office.

Internal investigators became aware of an inappropriate relationship between an officer and an inmate in Division II of the jail on Feb. 4, according to the statement. The division houses minimum and medium security male detainees.

Myers, who had worked with the sheriff's office since 2003, was taken into custody at the jail Wednesday night after a weeklong investigation, according to the statement. She resigned shortly after the arrest.

She appeared in court Thursday and was released on her own recognizance, according to the statement. If convicted, she faces between two and five years in prison.
