Police: 1 Dead, 6 Injured In Weekend Shootings Across City

(STMW) -- One man has been killed and at least six others injured in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend, police said.

The only fatal shooting of the weekend happened early Sunday in West Englewood.

Two men were inside a van at a stoplight in the 1400 block of West 71st Street about 3:20 a.m. when a tan SUV pulled up behind them and shots were fired, police said.

A 22-year-old man was shot multiple times in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the arm and face and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

On Saturday afternoon, a 19-year-old man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.

He was walking near 84th Street and Sangamon about 4:30 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the wrist, police said. He took himself to Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

About a half-hour earlier, a man was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 39-year-old, who police said has documented gang ties, walked into West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park about 4 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the hand. The shooting happened during a possible robbery attempt in the 5500 block of West Huron, police said. He also was listed in good condition.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, another 39-year-old was injured in a shooting, this time in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

He was sitting in a vehicle about 2:10 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Champlain when someone walked up and shot him in the arm and back, police said. He took himself to University of Chicago Medical Center and was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

He was outside in the 2700 block of West Cortland about 12:30 a.m. when a dark-colored SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was struck in the right torso and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said.

The weekend's first shooting was also a drive-by attack, about 6 p.m. Friday evening in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

A 23-year-old man was standing outside in the 7100 block of South Vincennes when a light-colored car pulled up and someone inside shot him in the side and leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Saint Bernard Hospital.

Additionally, a Chicago Police officer shot a man in the West Englewood neighborhood about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he allegedly pulled a gun on police during a traffic stop in the 1300 block of West 73rd Street. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with injuries that weren't thought to be life-threatening, police said.
