Chicago-Area Residents Try To Cope With This Week's Cold Snap

(CBS) -- We've mostly avoided the polar vortex this year.

But with the kind of weather forecast for this week it's definitely time to start paying attention to cold weather dangers.

CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports.

Bitter cold weather means home health nurse Jennifer Bredemeyer adds a few things to her checklist.

She's making sure clients like 89-year-old Elvera Magno are taking precautions.

Magno leaves the shoveling to neighbors, but  not all seniors are that lucky.

The nasty weather also warrants checking out your car to avoid potential dangers.
