Cubs, Rooftop Owners Will Learn Fate Of Latest Dispute On Thursday
(CBS) After a four-hour court session Wednesday, the Cubs and Wrigley Field rooftop owners will hear a federal judge's ruling Thursday morning over the rooftop owners' request that a temporary restraining order be granted to prevent the installation of signs in the stadium's renovation, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Rooftop owners -- in this case, the Skybox and Lakeview Baseball Club businesses -- have long contended the installation of advertising signs would inhibit their views and severely hurt their business. Skybox and the Lakeview Baseball Club argue they'll no longer be able to sell tickets and "will go out of business" if the restraining order isn't granted, the Sun-Times reported.
Cubs' lawyers argued that the organization has every right to install signs on its own field and that the rooftop owners could continue their argument even with the construction of signs, according to the Sun-Times. The Cubs already are stalled in the first phase of Wrigley Field's renovation, as the bleachers won't be ready until late May or early June.
The is just the latest chapter in a long dispute that figures to continue on.
