Your Chicago: The Rink

(CBS) – In every community there is a place where the neighborhood comes to gather. On the Southeast Side of Chicago, for the past 40 years, that place has been The Rink.

The 35,000-square-foot facility is part roller rink but so much more.

CBS 2's Rob Johnson reports.

The Rink, on East 87th Street, is packed on a Tuesday afternoon. The roller rink is hopping. The old-school music is blaring.

The rink has skating and music for people of all ages, not just the adults. And there's more to it than just the roller rink. They've got pool, ping pong, cards, and much more.

"I guess my favorite part is seeing generations," owner Nate Simpson says. "I've seen little kids grow up and now working on the third generation. I like seeing people happy."
