3 Killed, 8 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men were killed and at least eight other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot about 2:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 69th Place found the 26-year-old with a gunshot wound to the hip, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead an hour later, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. His name was not being released at 4:30 p.m. Sunday because his family had not yet been notified, the medical examiner's office said.

A police source said the man was a documented gang member.

A man was killed Saturday afternoon in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side.

Demarcus Adams, 28, was standing outside about 5:05 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Malden when someone walked up and shot him in the back and leg, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

The shooter was seen driving off in a silver car, police said.

Adams, of the 4400 block of North Racine, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:44 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.

About 5:45 p.m. Friday, a man was shot to death in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired found 25-year-old Malcolm Tompkins unresponsive in the 5600 block of South Green, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Tompkins, of the 5600 block of South Peoria, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 6:41 p.m., authorities said.

The most recent nonfatal shootings happened on Sunday afternoon in the South Chicago neighborhood.

About 1 p.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in the side during a possible domestic incident in the 8600 block of South Colfax, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

On Sunday morning, a 22-year-old documented gang member was shot in the lower leg about 10 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Kedzie. His condition was stabilized at a hospital, police said.

About an hour earlier, two teenagers were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. A 15-year-old girl was shot in the hand and a 17-year-old boy was grazed in the forehead in the 200 block of West 47th Street, police said. Their conditions were stabilized at Stroger.

At least three other people have been injured in shootings since 6:50 p.m. Friday.
