Lake Effect Snow Warning Issued For Chicago

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Get ready for a second blast of snow on Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Cook County until 6 p.m., and for north suburban Lake County until 3 p.m.

Two counties in northwest Indiana also are under a Lake Effect Snow Warning; in Lake County until 9 p.m., and in Porter County until 6 a.m. Friday.

The forecast is calling for moderate to briefly heavy lake effect snow showers through this afternoon, before tapering off from north to south from late afternoon through early evening.

An additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches--on top of the four to eight inches that have fallen since late Wednesday afternoon--are possible. Accumulations will likely vary considerably over the area given the lake effect nature of the snow.

Wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour will make travel more difficult.
