16-Year-Old Boy Charged With Fatal Shooting Of Aurora Teen

(STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy has been charged with shooting another teen to death Friday afternoon in west suburban Aurora.

About 1 p.m., two teens, one of whom had a handgun, approached Gianni Aguirre outside his home in the 100 block of Bluff Street and multiple shots were fired, according to a statement from Aurora police.

Aguirre was shot once in the chest and taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after arrival, police said. The two suspects ran away after the shooting.

About six minutes later, officers arrested two boys, ages 16 and 17, near Lincoln Avenue just north of Seminary Street, two blocks away from the scene of the shooting, police said.

The teenagers fit the description of the shooters and were taken into custody without incident. Police said a gun was recovered nearby.

The 16-year-old is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting, police said. He is being held in the Kane County Youth Home. Police did not release his identity because of his age.

The 17-year-old was released without charges after detectives learned he apparently had no knowledge of the impending shooting and that he ran away out of fear, police said.

Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
