Teenage Boy Among 14 Injured In Chicago Weekend Gun Violence

(STMW) --At least 14 people have been shot – including a 14-year-old boy – throughout Chicago since Friday evening.

Most recently, a man was shot Sunday afternoon in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

About 2:30 p.m., the 18-year-old was shot in the right leg in the 5100 block of West Iowa, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Another Sunday shooting left three people hurt in the Englewood neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 1:15 p.m. in the 5800 block of South LaSalle, police said.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. A 25-year-old man was shot in the hip, hand and back and also taken to Stroger. And a 22-year-old woman was shot in the knee and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

All three of their conditions had stabilized, police said.

Police said the 24-year-old man is a documented gang member and the shooting may be gang-related.

A person was shot in the head Sunday afternoon in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

That shooting happened in the 5800 block of West Patterson at 12:52 p.m., police said.

The male, whose age was not immediately available, was taken in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.

On Sunday morning, at 7:15 a.m., a 21-year-old man walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the thigh, where he is listed in good condition.

Police said the man was shot about 5:45 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Kostner, but Area Central detectives are still investigating to confirm that location.

A woman was shot while riding in a taxi early Sunday in the Wicker Park neighborhood.

The 35-year-old was shot in an alley in the 1200 block of North Damen at 2:30 a.m., police said. She was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized. A police source said the woman was inside a taxi at the time of the shooting.

About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, a man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The 19-year-old showed up a at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to the right arm, police said. He told investigators the shooting happened in the 4600 block of West Erie. Police said he was being uncooperative with investigators.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, two men were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Two men, ages 18 and 30, were in the 5000 block of South Aberdeen about 3:25 p.m. when a gunman walked up and opened fire, police said. The older man was left in serious condition, shot in the leg, abdomen and buttocks. The younger man was in good condition with a wound to the ankle. Both were being treated at Stroger Hospital, police said.

Just after 1 p.m., a 25-year-old man was injured in a drive-by shooting in the Chatham neighborhood.

The man was standing outside in the 700 block of East 93rd Street when a black, four-door vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, striking him in the leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

About 90 minutes before that, a 23-year-old man was shot in Englewood.

The man was standing outside about 11:30 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Peoria when two men came out of a gangway across the street and fired shots, striking the man once in the left hip, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.

Late Friday, a man was shot in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood.

The 26-year-old was in the 1600 block of West Juneway when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and someone inside opened fire before the car fled north, police said. He was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston with a gunshot wound to the side, police said. His condition was stabilized.

The weekend's first shooting happened about 6:50 p.m. Friday in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

A 14-year-old boy with documented gang ties was outside in the 1500 block of East 61st Street when someone shot him in the lower leg, police said. He was listed in good condition at Comer Children's Hospital.
