Sources: UIC interviews Craig Robinson, Steve McClain

By Chris Emma-

(CBS) A week after the dismissal of Howard Moore, UIC has interviewed two candidates for its head coaching position and is moving closer to a selection.

Former Oregon State coach Craig Robinson and Indiana assistant Steve McClain each interviewed with UIC this week, according to sources close to the situation. Robinson has emerged as the favorite, one source said.

Robinson has a record of 122-128 as a head coach, with six years at Oregon State and two as coach of Brown. He was fired from Oregon State after last season and spent the past year working as an ESPN analyst. A Chicago native, Robinson is a Princeton graduate and spent six seasons as an assistant with Northwestern. He's also the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama.

McClain currently serves as an assistant for Tom Crean and Indiana, that following a three-year stint at Colorado. He was previously head coach of Wyoming with a record of 157-115 for nine seasons, and he brought the program to four postseason appearances, including the NCAA Tournament in 2002. Much of his success came at the junior college level.

UIC fired Moore after five seasons, in which he compiled a record of 49-111. Following the Flames' 18-16 season and CIT berth in 2012-'13, Moore was awarded a five-year extension, which still has three years left on his current buyout.

The Flames have hired a search firm to assist in the hire, similar to DePaul, and could name a coach in the next week.
