Bishop Larry Trotter Released From Hospital After Bout With Pneumonia

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Bishop Larry Trotter, the senior pastor of Sweet Holy Spirit Church, was briefly hospitalized this week with pneumonia.

On Sunday morning while preparing for church, Trotter was taken to Rush University Medical Center after complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath, according to a statement from Trotter spokesman Sean Howard.

The bishop was diagnosed with pneumonia and released from the hospital Tuesday morning after a two-day stay, Howard said.

"The Bishop would like to express his gratitude to all who have prayed for him and sent well wishes, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Harvey Mayor Eric Kellogg," Howard's statement said. He also thanked the staff at Rush for excellent care.

Howard said the illness is not related to Trotter's prostate cancer diagnosis two years ago, and that he remains cancer-free since undergoing surgery in 2013.

Trotter is resting comfortably at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
