Street Closures Planned Sunday For Shamrock Shuffle, Hellenic Heritage Parade

(STMW) -- The Shamrock Shuffle and the Hellenic Heritage Parade are both coming to Chicago this weekend, causing some street closures for drivers near Grant Park and Greektown.

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K race starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Columbus and Monroe, according to a statement from city officials.

More than 27,000 runners will participate in the race that winds through parts of River North and the Loop, according to the race's official website.

Parking along the race course will not be allowed after 6 a.m. Sunday, according to the city. Vehicles not removed by that time will be ticketed and towed. To find a towed vehicle, owners can call 311 or (312) 744-4444.

Additional streets will be closed in Grant Park, but Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue will remain open, the city said.

On the Near West Side, the Hellenic Heritage Parade steps off at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the city said. The parade celebrates the anniversary of the Greek Declaration of Independence. It runs along Halsted from Randolph to Van Buren, and will disrupt traffic in that area.

Anyone attending either event or driving in those areas should pay attention to their surroundings and follow the directions of traffic control aides.

IDOT is also reminding attendees that construction on the Jane Byrne Interchange could impact visitors coming to the events. Motorists should check IDOT's website for the most recent construction information before planning their trips.
