Cubs To Pay Tribute To Ernie Banks On Opening Night

CHICAGO (CBS) -- They won't play two, but the Cubs will pay tribute to the late Hall of Famer Ernie Banks on Opening Night, covering the entire bleacher section with photos of "Mr. Cub."

"When people walk into the ballpark on Opening Night, they will see beautiful photographic images of Ernie Banks throughout his career," Cubs spokesman Julian Green said. "Several images which we believe are just wonderful depictions of who he was."

Green said the photographs of Banks will be on 10 1,200-square-foot panels.

"It's very huge," Green said. "It covers the entire bleacher section."

Of course, nobody will be sitting in the bleachers, because the Wrigley Field renovation is still underway, and Cubs have said the new bleachers won't be ready until later in the season.

Green said Banks' twin sons, Joey and Jerry, will throw out the first pitch and sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh-inning stretch.
