Northwestern Student Raped In Dorm Room

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities at Northwestern University were investigating, after a female student reported she was sexually assaulted in her dorm room Monday evening.

School officials said the attacker is not believed to be a student at the Evanston campus, where a young woman was raped inside a residence hall between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Campus police said the victim and the suspect exchanged messages online before they met in person Monday afternoon at a CTA train station in Evanston. She brought him back to her dorm room, where he attacked her.

Authorities said he did not use a weapon.

By 10 p.m. Monday, students were receiving electronic alerts about the attack. Alerts also were posted on the front page of the university's website, along with information on where to turn in an emergency.

A description of the assailant was not immediately available, but the university said police have determined there is no threat to the community.

According to the Daily Northwestern, it was the second rape reported on campus in the past month. The other reportedly occurred at the Evans Scholars House on the Evanston campus.
