One Killed, Eight Wounded In Wednesday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago within a 10-hour span Wednesday.

The teen was shot in the shoulder about 6:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of West 71st Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the death Wednesday night.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about 11:50 p.m. in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The man, whose exact age was not immediately known, was shot in the leg in the 4500 block of South Troy, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About five minutes earlier, a person was shot in the Englewood neighborhood.

The male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot about 11:45 p.m. in the 500 block of West 61st Street, police said. Additional details were not available.

At 11:05 p.m., a man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood .

The 23-year-old was standing on a front porch in the 6500 block of South Laflin when another male walked up and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the arm and leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 9:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was injured in a Washington Heights neighborhood drive-by shooting on the South Side.

The teenager was standing on the sidewalk in the 9900 block of South Peoria when someone fired shots from a light-colored vehicle, police said. He was shot in the foot and a friend drove him to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Less than four hours earlier, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side.

The 29-year-old man was shot in the arm, leg and buttocks about 5:40 p.m. in the 300 block of West 95th Street, police said. He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

About 5:05 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the lip in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

Five minutes earlier, a 23-year-old man was shot in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side. The man suffered gunshot wounds to his left eye and left arm and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition.

The afternoon's first shooting was reported in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 1:45 p.m., a 21-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital after he was shot in the torso in the 3400 block of West Harrison, police said. He was listed in critical condition.
