4 Killed, 15 Wounded In Shootings On South, SW Sides

(STMW) -- Four people were killed and at least 15 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago throughout the weekend.

The most recent fatality happened Saturday afternoon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Milon L. Carvis, 42, was standing on the sidewalk about 4:15 p.m. with several other adults in the 7800 block of South Seeley when a male walked up and fired shots, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. The shooter then ran away eastbound.

Carvis was shot in the torso and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 8400 block of South Hoyne Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office.

About four hours earlier, a teenage boy was found shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 6500 block of South Marshfield at 12:18 p.m. found 16-year-old Martell J. Lawrence unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

Lawrence, of the 1700 block of West Marquette, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:47 p.m., authorities said.

Police said he had documented gang affiliations and a history of arrests.

Friday afternoon, a man was shot to death in the Englewood neighborhood.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 2 p.m. Friday in the 7000 block of South Normal Avenue found 18-year-old Azun Buckner with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Buckner, of the 6900 block of South Eggleston, was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where he later died, authorities said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member.

About 11:30 a.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was fatally shot while walking near Washington Park.

Jerome Anderson was walking in the 5800 block of South King Drive when a gold vehicle pulled up and an armed male suspect got out, according to police and the medical examiner's office. The suspect opened fire then drove off.

Anderson, of the 7900 block of South Wabash, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, authorities said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member, and was on parole at the time of the shooting.

A 17-year-old girl was hurt in the the most recent nonfatal shooting on the South Side.
The shooting—which may have been domestic-related—happened about 2 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 88th Street, police said.

The teen was shot in the foot and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was in good condition, police said.

At 11:40 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The man was walking in the 4200 block of West Cermak Road when someone fired shots out of a passing blue van, police said. He was shot in the left leg.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said. Initially, his condition was serious.

Several hours earlier, a man was shot on the Northwest Side.

The man, 25, was walking on the sidewalk in the 4600 block of West Diversey about 4:55 a.m. when someone fired shots from a passing red vehicle, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. He was in good condition. Police said the shooting may be gang-related.

At least 12 other people have been wounded in shootings since 1:20 p.m. Friday.

Also, Chicago Police officers shot a man after he pointed a gun at them Saturday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 4:15 p.m., gang enforcement officers on patrol in the 6100 block of South Rockwell approached the 34-year-old man for a narcotics investigation, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

As an officer walked up and announced himself, the man turned and pointed a handgun at him, police said.

The man then ran away and eventually ran into two more officers. He again pointed his gun at the officers and they shot him in both legs, police said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, authorities said.

A police source said the man is a convicted felon on parole.
