Chris Sale Goes 5 Innings In Final Tuneup, Will Start Sunday

(CBS) White Sox ace Chris Sale threw five innings Monday in a minor league start in Arizona, his final tuneup in a comeback from a right foot fracture before he's scheduled to take the mound Sunday against the Twins.

Sale threw 72 pitches Monday, and he allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking two.

"This was the last hurdle," general manager Rick Hahn said, according to the Sun-Times. "Based on everything I heard so far, it sounds like everything went well."

Sale didn't pitch in a major league spring training game after suffering the injury on Feb. 27, but the White Sox are confident after seeing his stuff and and progress. He'll take the hill to close the the team's initial homestand Sunday against Minnesota.

Dealing with a forearm strain, White Sox reliever Jake Petricka won't return Saturday when he's eligible to come off the disabled list. He's more likely to return sometime next week, the Sun-Times reported.
