MLB Opening Day: Best Tweets

Bryan Altman--

(CBS Local) The 2015 MLB season is officially underway and the early returns are that most of the country couldn't be happier to have America's Pastime back after a long winter recess. Of course, that's subject to change as teams' records sink like a stone and we reach the 98th game of the meandering and trying 162-game season. Still, joy filled the air at America's ballparks and it even permeated its way into the social media universe as well. Here's a quick recap of an entertaining opening day on Twitter.

It wasn't just the fans looking forward to kicking off the MLB season, some companies got in on the fun as well and one might have been waiting for an actual "kickoff" to get the games started.

In their defense, if I worked at Hostess everything else in the world would take a backseat to eating powdered donuts off of an assembly line all day and I probably wouldn't know or care whether baseball is played at all. At least Hostess attempted to clarify the previous tweet... More or less.

It hasn't been confirmed whether or not this is just a publicity stunt by Hostess or not, but either way, thanks for making our opening day, and our daily lives for that matter, that much sweeter.

After one game of an NFL season it might be fair to make some sweeping judgments. After one MLB game, probably not, but some are still happy to. The Sporting News' Jesse Spector spent the day having a little bit of fun at those peoples' expense.

Just like Larry King, opening day never gets old.

Too often we hear about "Twitter wars" between sports franchises, it's nice seeing these guys wish each other luck.

Fans and pundits might get excited for opening day, but it's hard to imagine anyone is more excited than the guys who put on the uniforms day in and day out.

Just look at how happy A's closer Sean Doolittle is.

Space, the final frontier, and probably the worst seat ever for a baseball game. But that didn't stop American astronaut Terry Virts from getting excited about opening day.

There are always some opening day delinquents who abdicate all of their responsibilities for some opening day fun. In this case, it might not have been a great idea.

It was a fun opening day all around the country. Now the trick is to carry this excitement through the next eight months of the baseball season. As Hostess would say, that would truly be a touchdown.
