Girl Found Alone In Prospect Heights Identified

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 3-year-old girl found wandering alone in a forest preserve in Prospect Heights has been identified by her family, but has not yet been reunited, as police and child welfare authorities investigate.

The Cook County Sheriff's office said a passerby found the girl, whose name is Aliya, around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Milwaukee Avenue and Palatine Road in Prospect Heights, near the Allison Woods Forest Preserve.

Her family identified her late Tuesday night, but she has been placed in the custody of a relative while Cook County Sheriff's Police detectives and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigate how she ended up alone in the forest preserve.
