43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith Wins Re-Election As Challenger Concedes

(CBS) -- A week after election day, incumbent Michele Smith has wom the 43rd Ward aldermanic race.

A spokesman for Michele Smith says opponent Caroline Vickrey called to concede the race in the North Side ward. Smith was leading by an unofficial tally of 86 votes.

At the end of the night on Election Day, Vickrey was leading Smith but as the absentee ballots began being counted, Smith eventually took the lead.
