White Sox To Call Up Carlos Rodon

CHICAGO (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago White Sox are calling up prized pitching prospect Carlos Rodon from Triple-A Charlotte and will have him work out of the bullpen initially.

The news was first reported by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. A corresponding transaction will be made before Monday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

The No. 3 pick in last year's draft, the left-hander Rodon joins the Cubs' Kris Bryant as the second high-profile Chicago prospect to be called up in the past few days.

Rodon was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts for Charlotte. He had 13 strikeouts and four walks.

In spring training, Rodon had a 3.06 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings.

Rodon is expected to be moved to the rotation at some point this season, as the White Sox have a need there. Chicago is 0-3 this season when John Danks and Hector Noesi -- the team's fourth and fifth starters -- start a game. Danks is 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, while Noesi is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 2.14 WHIP.
