Surveillance Images Released Of Blue Line Sexual Assault Suspect

(CBS) -- Chicago police released surveillance images of a man they say sexually assaulted and robbed a woman on the Blue Line Monday afternoon.

"The victim was alone at the time of the incident, there were no other persons in the compartment," said Chicago police detective Jackie Mol.

Detective Mok says the man attacked the woman from behind, knocking her to the ground. The assault made even more brazen by the fact it happened at 3:10 in the afternoon. Police say he also stole the 41-year-old woman's iPhone and some cash.

It shocks me anytime," said Blue Line rider Elaine May. "It is something that just shouldn't happen but to be so bold to do it in the middle of the day, that's scary."

"There should be better security here," said rider Tiffany Marsh. "Especially in broad daylight, it is really shocking."

The victim got on the eastbound Blue Line train at Oak Park Avenue. After the attack, the suspect got off at Cicero, boarded a westbound train and got off again at Austin.

Detective Monk said the victim was able to use the emergency switch on the train to alert authorities.

Police hope the crystal clear photo quickly leads them to her attacker.

The suspect was wearing a black, gray and blue Columbia jacket, blue jeans and gym shoes with green laces, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Area North Bureau of Detectives at (312) 744-8261.
